TEACHER
As an experienced educator, she has worked in secondary schools in both the United States and the West Indies, and has worked for the College Board as a National Reader for the A.P. Psychology exam for almost a decade. Paulyn enjoys seeing students come to the realization that they are more academically and intellectually capable than they think. Her goal in teaching is to help students love learning, in addition to growing in knowledge and understanding of themselves and the world in which they live, and to be good stewards of the gifts and opportunities they are given. She sees each student as a unique individual with a unique brain and and specific approach to learning. She believes that one role of the teacher is to help each student understand himself or herself as a unique learner and to maximize their strengths in the process. She has especially enjoyed teaching Psychology.
COUNSELOR
As a counselor, Paulyn has worked with adults and adolescents. She served as the School Counselor at The Stony Brook School for 15 years, developing a program that used a wholistic approach and was proactive in identifying students at risk, ensuring that they had the necessary help and support they needed. She also helped to create an environment in which students needing academic support could receive it in a caring, accepting context, while discovering how they best learn.
COACH
Paulyn has experience as a personal and professional coach as a Certified Highlands Affiliate with the Highlands Company for over 10 years. The Highlands Ability Battery helps people identify their personal abilities and gives them strategies for maximizing their strengths. She uses the Highlands Ability Battery to help individuals identify their natural abilities and explore how those affect their personal style, learning, communication, problem solving and leadership styles. She helps students explore possible college and career options, based on their abilities, and helps adults explore their options as they transition through their career development cycle.
